Meet the Artists Reception
Location: Benedict College Business Development Center, 2601 Read Street, Columbia, SC 29204

The Community Empowerment Center, Institute for African American Research, and College of Social Work invite you to the Community Visions Photo Voice Debut Exhibit.  Light Refreshments will be served.

What is Photo Voice? Photo voice is a participatory action research approach that empowers community artists to use cameras to document their communities, reflect on the meanings found in their photos, engage in critical dialogue with others, and to use their photos and voices to ignite social change.

The Community Visions Photo Voice project took place in 2013 and consisted of seven community artists from the Lyon Street and Gonzales Gardens neighborhoods in Columbia, SC. The community artists documented their neighborhood including community-level changes that have happened in the recent past as well as change that is yet to be realized.

The debut exhibit is free of charge and open to the public.
