Master of Social Work Admissions

We are pleased that you are interested in the Master of Social Work program. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must meet admission requirements and criteria for both the Graduate School and the College of Social Work. We begin accepting applications in the fall of each year.

How to Apply

The application is a two-part process. The applicant must first apply to the Graduate School using an online application system. The application fee is $50. Access the Graduate School online system at http://gradschool.sc.edu/prospective/apply.asp. Applications are complete when the applications and all supplemental documents are submitted to the Graduate school.

Application Deadlines

The application deadline for the Advanced Standing Program is February 1.

All supplemental documents must be in no later than March 1. Please note: any applications or supplemental documents received after March 31 will be considered on a seat-available basis only.

Admissions Criteria

Advanced Standing

  1. Submit Graduate School application to: http://www.gradschool.sc.edu
  2. BSW from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
  3. Two letters of recommendation (three preferred) from professors or employers
  4. Submit official transcripts from EACH institution you attended
  5. Current resume which outlines education, work, and volunteer activities
  6. Official GRE scores (The GRE is NOT required of applicants who have earned a master’s degree, or a 3.0 overall GPA)
  7. Autobiographical statement

Full-time and Part-time (includes extended campuses Greenville & Charleston)

  1. Submit Graduate School application to: http://www.gradschool.sc.edu
  2. Official transcripts from EACH institution attended
  3. Two letters of recommendation (three preferred) from professors or employers
  4. Current resume which outlines education, work and volunteer activities
  5. TOEFL or IELTS scores for applicants whose primary language in something other than English
  6. Official GRE scores (The GRE is NOT required of applicants who have earned a master’s degree, or a 3.0 overall GPA)
  7. Autobiographical statement
