Dr. Nicholas Cooper-Lewter receives Pyramid Award

Dr. Nicholas Cooper-Lewter was honored on April 4, 2012, by receiving our Pyramid Award at our forty-fourth National Conference that was held in Atlanta Georgia.  The Pyramid Award is the highest award within the organization and in our history we have assessed the work of our recipients, so very few are given.

Through his work in the community, his scholarship, writings and teachings, we felt that Dr. Cooper-Lewter exemplifies that which is good in Social Work.  The list of recent recipients includes, Congressman John Lewis, Dr. Patricia Reid-Merritt Social Work Professor, and National Lecturer, Savannah State University President and Social Work Educator, Dr. Cheryl Dozier and Ambassador Andrew J. Young.  This short and exemplary list demonstrates the high esteem and recognition of Dr. Cooper-Lewter's work in Soul Therapy, which provides a unique method of curing the ills of the Black community.  Additionally, Dr. Cooper-Lewter was our keynote speaker for the opening Plenary.  The opening Plenary, in our tradition is both thought provoking and controversial in its content so as to start the thinking process in our individual attendees.

Our 800 participants was encouraged and challenged by his thoughts, work and words.
