- Join with Azeri and U.S. families in creating a week-long cross-cultural therapeutic family camp community for building civil society
- Experience the Satir Growth Model, a powerful system for promoting individual and social change, and its applications with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, in a cross-cultural setting
- Develop an understanding of the strengths and challenges of Azeri families within their social, political, economic, historical and cultural contexts
- Apply Theater of the Oppressed methods in effecting social change
- Discover tools for building civil society in a post-Communist country, rich in history and in hope for the future
- Learn cross-cultural collaboration skills through partnership with Azeri university students to plan, implement and evaluate children’s and teens’ programming for therapeutic family camp
- Increase cultural competency and communication skills through facilitating cross-cultural dialogues on promoting civil society and social justice in everyday lives
- Increase awareness of global interconnectedness and interdependence
- Make a difference as a more informed and involved citizen of the world
In addition to social workers, this course has relevance for majors in sociology, psychology, public health, education, women’s studies, and political science.
Estimated cost: $3500 (based on minimum of 15 participants) plus tuition ($1320 in-state; $2808 out-of-state)
