FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the COSW procedure for routing grants to Sponsored Awards Management?
All COSW-originated grants must be approved by the Dean’s office through USCERA prior to being sent to Sponsored Awards Management (SAM). Beth Herron looks at the submission first, and then it is sent to Dean Poole for his review or approval. Please allow twenty-four hours for this approval process.
How do I know what indirect cost rate to use for my project?
Please work with Beth Herron to determine the indirect cost rate for your project; these rates are determined both by the sponsor guidelines and also by University policy. You can find current information about the University’s negotiated indirect cost rate here:

Do students get fringe benefits? What about faculty during the summer?
Yes, students do earn fringe benefits at a rate of 1% (to cover worker’s compensation). Any University employee can choose to participate in the state retirement system, including students and temporary employees. However, it is unusual for students to elect this membership. Fringe benefits for faculty during the summer are figured at a 19.60% rate. Please work with Beth to determine your personnel budget. A link to information about fringe benefits is found here:
