Waiver Exams for Social Work Courses
Waiver Exam Schedule for Fall 2007:
Monday, August 20, 2007. 6-9pm. SOWK 741
Tuesday, August 21, 2007. 6-9pm. SOWK 712
Location: 1731 College Street (corner of College and Barnwell Streets across the street from Capstone Dormitory and next door to the Moore School of Business).
No fee to sit for the exam. No penalty for failing. Please register for class until you receive notification of passing the exam.

Students who believe they have mastered the content for these courses may apply to take one or more of the exams, using the linked form (click here). This form cannot be transmitted electronically so it must be printed and completed and presented at the beginnig of the exam to the faculty member.
Note: Eligibility to take the SOWK 712, SOWK 716, SOWK 741, and SOWK 742 waiver exam is limited to students who have earned a BSW from an undergraduate program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Course waiver exams are course specific (based on the current course syllabus) but not text specific. They are designed to determine whether a student has already mastered the content of the course and therefore will not be required to take the course itself. There is no fee charged for taking the exam and no penalty for taking the exam and not passing it. Examinations are graded using a “pass” or “fail.” No appeal or review of the graded examination is permitted. Students who take the exam(s) should register for and attend course(s) until they are notified they have passed the exam(s).

The College of Social Work offers the opportunity for students who can demonstrate mastery of certain areas of knowledge to waive up to 15 semester hours of course work. Under this plan, students who have been accepted as degree candidates may, upon successful completion of evaluation procedures, be allowed to waive any of the following courses: SOWK 712, SOWK 716, SOWK741, SOWK 742, and SOWK 791. Evaluation procedures include written examinations. Only students who hold a B.S.W. from a CSWE-accredited program are eligible to take SOWK 712, SOWK 716, SOWK 741, and SOWK 742 waiver exams.
