The University of South Carolina has a rich tradition of welcoming and supporting
international applicants. In addition to your graduate school application, you may
need to submit documentation related to your international status.
COVID-19 Accommodations for Admissions
The use of Duolingo scores as a COVID-19 accommodation is extended through the 2023-2024

of English language by the Graduate School, Duolingo scores of 115 and higher may
be submitted as alternate evidence of language proficiency. Summer 2024 is the final
application term that Duolingo scores have been approved for use at this time.
International Application Requirements
Applicants whose native language is not English must:
Submit a satisfactory score on an English proficiency test.
Take a diagnostic test in English when they arrive at the university.
English Proficiency Tests
The TOEFL exam, IELTS International Academic Course Type 2 exam and the PTE Academic
are accepted English proficiency tests.
Minimum Score: 53 (Some programs have higher standards.)
