We have a history of making a big impact on the health of South Carolina. Founded in Columbia in 1973, our school pioneered a medical curriculum to integrate ultrasound technology. We have made big inroads in training physicians focused on rural health, and our research students regularly win major national grants and go on to prestigious post-doctoral positions.
Our Clinical Partners
Our partnership with Palmetto Health has increased the number of specialties and physicians available to both partners. Our students benefit from having access to physician educators throughout their medical education, residencies and fellowships. We also have great partnerships with the Dorn Veterans Administration Medical Center, Greenwood Genetics Center and the South Carolina Department of Mental Health that give our students access to practical clinical and research opportunities.
Our Research
Faculty and students from all programs and departments in our school work to understand and treat health issues that plague our nation. Our faculty and students focus their research on high-impact areas, such as cardiovascular health, neuroscience and cancer.
Our Programs
Our fully-accredited programs give our students hands-on clinical training, faculty mentorship and the opportunity to conduct high-impact research at a Tier 1 research university in a number of health-related fields. Our school focuses on high-impact research and improving the health of our state, which is why we've chosen to offer programs that will train students to do both.
