There's no better way for a student to see what life is like outside the classroom than by experiencing it firsthand. We invite our alumni to allow a student to shadow them during their work day, offering them an opportunity they otherwise wouldn't have until later in their education.

HOST a Student

Our Help Our Students Travel (HOST) program gives you the opportunity to host a student in your hometown while he or she is traveling to interviews or working on a rotation away from USC.

We're always looking for alumni who can:

• give a tour of the area in which you live or practice.
• speak about your own experiences.
• provide an insider’s view of the medical profession and your specialty.
• share a cup of coffee.
• treat a student to dinner.
• host visiting students at your home.

Involvement in this program is an opportunity to open your home to traveling medical students from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine while they investigate educational opportunities.As a host, we ask you to provide students with a comfortable place to sleep and shower. Food and transportation is the sole responsibility of the student, however, if you wish to provide these items to the student(s) staying with you, you are welcome to do so.Students are asked to respect your property, privacy, and time while they are your guests. Students may leave your home at any time for any reason. You may request a student to leave at any time if you feel the student is being inconsiderate or behaving in an inappropriate way. Either way, we ask that you contact the Alumni office to report the problem.Students must never be asked to pay you for your services.Please be aware that USC and the School of Medicine are not responsible for any loss of property, personal injury, or any other negative situation that could occur from your contact with any student you host.
