An earned undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required to be considered for admission to the MIB program. A degree in international business or significant coursework in international business is preferred (exceptions made for students applying to the Double-Degree program with Koc University or Shanghai Jiao Tong University). Graduate course work, whether degree has been fully completed or not, will also be taken into consideration. Transcripts from all institutions attended must be submitted to the Darla Moore School of Business.

You can attach unofficial transcripts to your online application for the review process.  Transcripts are required from every institution attended for course credit, even if a degree was not awarded.  Official transcripts are required for enrollment and must be sent before the end of your first term to continue in the program.  Documentation includes grade sheets, a statement of degree(s) awarded and the date each degree was conferred.  International universities often have separate grade sheets and certificates showing proof of degree.

Applicants must provide a valid Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or GRE score to be considered for admission to the MIB program. To be valid, test scores must be no older than five years. Applicants may apply for a waiver of the GMAT test for the MIB program if they meet any of the following conditions:

1. The student has earned, or is in the process of earning, another master’s degree. The degree must be from an accredited university, in the field of business or economics and the student must be ranked in the top 25% of their class.
2. The student has at least five years of professional, post-baccalaureate work experience. Internships completed during undergraduate studies do not count towards this total.
3. A student has a master’s degree in a non-business field and has at least three years of professional, post-baccalaureate business experience.

Admission review requires two letters of recommendation. Either professional or academic letters of recommendation are accepted.

The application for admission requires a statement of purpose (500-word essay) that should outline why you want to earn the MIB degree. There are additional short essay questions to answer (your choice of three out of five questions). Space is also provided to add a personal essay. This essay should be used to explain unique or specific circumstances concerning any part of your application where you feel the admissions committee might have concerns.

Candidates are encouraged to submit thorough and pertinent information on leadership activities, volunteerism, international travel experiences and other items that the admissions committee can use to evaluate the application package.

International applicants whose native language is not English may be required to submit a satisfactory score on the TOEFL, the IELTS International Academic Course Type 2 Exam, or the Duolingo Language Exam. Otherwise-qualified candidates are required to achieve a TOEFL score of at least iBT 100 or 600 paper-based or a score of at least 7.0 on the IELTS exam. The TOEFL is not required of international students who have a degree from an American college or university or who have earned a degree (in the top 25% of their class) fully administered in English. Graduates of foreign universities or colleges who have completed an academic program equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution are encouraged to apply for admission.

The Moore School offers an Accelerated program option for current UofSC-Columbia students, which allows them to complete their undergraduate international business degree and MIB degrees in four years. Visit the Accelerated program page to view program requirements and application information.

The Moore School admits new students into the MIB program once a year in late August (fall term).

Admission decisions are made when the application is complete — all documents and GMAT score reports are received. Primary criteria considered for admission include undergraduate performance, GMAT score and international coursework and experience.

• In the "optional essay" section, explain which double-degree you would prefer and why.

The admissions committee will work with each candidate to determine who will be accepted into each of the separate double-degree options.
